چکیده

Maximum likelihood methods are by far the most popular methods for deriving statistical estimators. However, parametric likelihoods require distributional specifications. The empirical likelihood is a nonparametric likelihood function that does not require such distributional assumptions, but is otherwise analogous to its parametric counterpart. Both likelihoods assume that the random variables are independent with a common distribution. A nonparametric likelihood function for data that are independent, but not necessarily identically distributed is introduced. The contaminated normal density is used to compare the robustness properties of weighted empirical likelihood estimators to empirical likelihood estimators. It is shown that as the contamination level of the sample increases, the root mean squared error of the empirical likelihood estimator for the mean increases. Conversely, the root mean squared error of the weighted empirical likelihood estimator for the mean remains closer to the theoretical root mean squared error. © 2006 Elsevier B.V. Estimation and Tests for Models Satisfying Linear Constraints with Unknown Parameter

We introduce estimation and test procedures through divergence minimization for models satisfying linear constraints with unknown parameter. Several statistical examples and motivations are given. These procedures extend the empirical likelihood (EL) method and share common features with generalized empirical likelihood (GEL). We treat the problems of existence and characterization of the diver...

Efficiency of Neural Networks for Estimating the Patch Load Resistance of Plate Girders with a Focus on Uncertainties in Material and Geometrical Properties

In this paper, a sensitivity analysis of artificial neural networks (NNs) is presented and employed for estimating the patch load resistance of plate girders subjected to patch loading. To evaluate the accuracy of the proposed NN model, the results are compared with the previously proposed empirical models, so that we can estimate the resistance of plate girders subjected to patch loading. The ...

An equivalent representation for weighted supremum norm on the upper half-plane

In this paper, rstly, we obtain some inequalities which estimates complex polynomials on the circles. Then, we use these estimates and a Moebius transformation to obtain the dual of this estimates forthe lines in upper half-plane. Finally, for an increasing weight on the upper half-plane withcertain properties and holomorphic functions f on the upper half-plane we obtain an equivalentrepresenta...

Robust Generalized Empirical Likelihood for heavy tailed autoregressions with conditionally heteroscedastic errors

We present a robust Generalized Empirical Likelihood estimator and confidence region for the parameters of an autoregression that may have a heavy tailed heteroscedastic error. The estimator exploits two transformations for heavy tail robustness: a redescending transformation of the error that robustifies against innovation outliers, and weighted least squares instruments that ensure robustness...

Smoothed weighted empirical likelihood ratio confidence intervals for quantiles

Thus far, likelihood-based interval estimates for quantiles have not been studied in the literature on interval censored case 2 data and partly interval censored data, and, in this context, the use of smoothing has not been considered for any type of censored data. This article constructs smoothed weighted empirical likelihood ratio confidence intervals (WELRCI) for quantiles in a unified frame...
